Privacy
Short version: no accounts, no tracking cookies, no ads at launch. Your progress stays on your device.

What stays on your device
To remember your streaks, stats and settings, Fiddleday uses your browser's local storage (not cookies). It holds things like which puzzles you solved, your star ratings, and your settings (sound, haptics, theme, reduced motion, colour-blind patterns). It never leaves your device, we cannot see it, and you can clear it any time in your browser settings. Clearing it resets your streaks. The only thing in it that relates to the global stats below is a small marker (the game and the date) saying your result for that day was already counted.
Global puzzle stats
When you solve today's puzzle, your browser sends one anonymous result to fiddleday.com: the game, the date and a coarse score bucket (for example "par or better", "+2 rolls over par", "3 stars" or "hint used"). We add it to a counter for that day so we can show how other players did, for example "23% of players lit every lotus within par". Nothing identifies you in it, it has no account, name or device ID, and it is sent once per game per day.
To stop one device from skewing the numbers, the server briefly combines your IP address with a random salt that changes every day and keeps only a one-way hash of the result (never the IP address itself) together with how many results that hash sent for the day. The salt and these hashes are deleted automatically after 2 days, after which they can no longer be linked to anyone. The anonymous daily counters are kept. These requests set no cookies and use no third-party services.
Analytics
We use Cloudflare Web Analytics to count visits to pages (for example how many people opened the home page). It is cookie-less: it does not set cookies, does not use local storage, does not build a profile of you and does not track you across sites. We see aggregated numbers such as page views, country and device type.
Hosting
The site is served by Cloudflare. Like any web host, Cloudflare processes your IP address when you load a page, for delivery and security. Fonts and all code are served from fiddleday.com itself, so nothing is loaded from other third-party sites.
Ads
There are no ads at launch. If we add them later, we will update this page and, where the law requires, ask for your consent before showing personalised ads.
What we do not do
- No accounts or logins.
- No sale or sharing of personal data.
- No tracking cookies.
- No IP addresses stored, only a short-lived one-way hash.
Children
Fiddleday is a general-audience puzzle site and collects no personal information from anyone.
